Our customer uses SAP S/4 HANA which provides a comprehensive suite of functionalities designed to transform business processes across various business requirements. It enables real-time insights, streamlined operations, and enhanced decision-making. The SAP system on their on-premises servers struggled to handle peak workloads during critical business periods, leading to performance bottlenecks and client dissatisfaction. Maintaining the on-premises SAP environment incurred significant expenses for the company. It also lacked a robust disaster recovery strategy. The migration we undertook was transformative as the customer now embraces AWS to overcome infrastructure limitations. Addressing these challenges through migration to AWS, they achieved a scalable, cost-effective, secure, and highly available SAP environment that empowered their business growth and provided a solid foundation for future innovation.

Quadra at Work

Quadra’s AWS team initially had a discussion with the client’s technical team and the SAP team to understand the workflow of the application and the integrations. Subsequently, we drafted and architected a solution and explained the application workflow to the client with respect to the cloud.

To fortify the security measures, we implemented a Fortinet firewall in a private AWS VPC (Virtual Private Cloud), ensuring protection against external threats.

To ensure data durability and availability, we implemented regular backups of our SAP HANA database. The backups are sent directly to AWS S3 (Simple Storage Service), a highly scalable and durable object storage service. This approach ensures data protection and facilitates quick recovery in the event of any data loss or system failure.

Through a successful migration to AWS, we enabled a seamless transition of their SAP system, encompassing both production and development environments to the cloud. Leveraging the scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency of AWS, our customer achieved a robust and flexible IT infrastructure. User connectivity is secured through encrypted VPN connections facilitated by the firewall.

For comprehensive monitoring, we deployed Amazon CloudWatch, which provides real-time insights into the SAP system's performance, resource utilization, and health. VPC flow logs capture network traffic data, allowing to analyse and detect any suspicious activities or anomalies. CloudTrail enables to track and audit API activity, providing visibility into changes made to the AWS resources.

By incorporating backup and monitoring mechanisms, we enhanced their overall data resilience and operational efficiency. The customer can now proactively monitor their SAP system's performance, detect, and respond to potential security threats, and safeguard their critical business data. This comprehensive solution enables to meet compliance requirements, achieve regulatory standards, and deliver exceptional performance while leveraging the scalability and flexibility of AWS.

This approach allows the customer to focus on core business activities while ensuring the highest level of security, availability, and performance for their SAP environment.
