Global fashion house looks to the cloud to deliver a high performance ERP solution

Solution-background
Solution Background

Our customer is a fashion house with 20+ production locations worldwide. They are a global apparel production leader in Asia and Europe. They cater to leading brands and have seen steady growth in the past fifteen years. They have developed a philosophy of empowering staff to achieve business results. Our customer had chosen a market leading SaaS collaboration platform as their productivity platform very early, a sign of their willingness to embrace the latest technology tools for business benefits. They had hosted an ERP used by 1000+ users who access it from various locations spread across the world. Their database instance had no high availability. Nor was there a disaster recovery site. Building a DR site would incur huge investment. Maintaining the database, scaling and patching would add to the overhead. Data replication from the production to the reporting server required a third-party tool. The database required a direct internet exposure for global access. So, the internal team had to ensure security of the data. They had followed the traditional on-premise deployment, which was prone to performance bottle necks and administrative overheads.

Quadra had been engaged with this customer for several years as a valued business partner. They approached our technical team to suggest a solution for this critical need. With experience in providing similar solutions for business across multiple verticals, we suggested a cloud-based PaaS solution for this scenario. We showed them the value of a managed instance for their ERP in Azure. They opted for an database engine that their team would manage in its entirety. We configured an database instance for them and set a Proof of Concept session to convince the customer on the technical feasibility. We connected their on-site DC to the Azure cloud through a secure Site-to-site VPN. We also configured the SQL reporting services on the cloud for report generation and BI. The PoC convinced the customer and they chose to go with the cloud solution for high availability and DR. Our technical team helped in migrating SQL data to the cloud instance. We added Azure file storage to expand their data store. We chose Azure App Services to enable development of a Mobile app.

Business Benefits

Moving to the cloud was a remarkable turning point in the management of the ERP. The 99.99% SLA that Azure provides resolved the crucial issue of intermittent break in service for the user. The in-built high availability feature made data accessible to the users anywhere anytime. The user experience improved manifold. They are now working on a safer environment. The site-to-site VPN secured the connection between the onsite DC and the cloud. The Azure based solution saved the customer several lakhs of rupees upfront investment. The Azure instance would also double up as a DR site for them. This would add to further cost saving. Microsoft manages the underlying infrastructure. Patching of the infra and upgrading its versions are the onus of the service provider. This offset the need for an infra management team. Another cost saver. The cloud solution enabled quick provisioning and auto scaling of resources. The SQL reporting services on the cloud instance provided them real-time reports. Power BI service available on Azure enabled them to produce dashboards for decision-making.
