As more and more financial transactions get automated and exposed via the Internet, data backup and retrieval, along with DR capabilities become highly critical. This is what one of our customers, a leading BFSI in the country faced. Compounding their problems was the fact that different applications resided on different platforms and with different architectures - it was a challenge to obtain a unified view of application data.
The first step that Quadra's technical consultants undertook was to systematically inventory and document all critical data and applications, along with their respective platforms. This demanded a thorough understanding of the customer's IT infrastructure, along with competencies on multiple platforms, and served as a fundamental document, against which we helped the customer to compare and contrast various data management solutions.
A critical aspect of the solution was high performance, considering that they dealt with shrinking backup windows, along with security and encryption options, to ensure data protection at all stages. Based on our assessment, we identified IBM's Tivoli Storage Manager platform as the best fit for their environment. As an IBM Premier Partner, Quadra was certified at an advanced level for various solution workloads. The overriding business requirement was to achieve this with zero disruption to current business systems, while at the same time accommodating the heterogeneous and fragmented environment. The solution was able to address data across Unix and Windows platforms, along with support for multiple databases, including email and high capacity virtual environments. We also helped to extend the data management platform to the DR location also, and successfully tested with successful backups and restores across various permutations and combinations.
The result was a high performance backup solution, that was able to meet the customer's goals of reliability and backup window performance, along with a unified view of critical data. With a robust and scalable solution capable of meeting even greater future LoB workloads, the customer's data management pains were greatly eased. More importantly, it brought peace of mind and also security to mission critical data, thus supporting the customer's industry leading status as a proactive and innovative user of technology.
